International buyers should specify both board thickness and density when sourcing thin MDF. Thickness defines the nominal distance between the board faces, while density describes mass in relation to board volume. The two values address different parts of the product specification and should be reviewed together with dimensions, surface condition, processing and the finished application.
What does MDF density mean?
MDF density is normally expressed in kilograms per cubic metre (kg/m³). In purchasing terms, it identifies the mass of board material within a defined volume and gives the factory a target for the requested board specification.
A density value should not be used as a complete grade description. Buyers also need to confirm thickness, dimensions, surface requirements and the downstream process because these variables are reviewed together during production and application evaluation.
Thickness and density are different specifications
A thinner board is not automatically a higher-density board, and a thicker board is not automatically a lower-density board. The nominal thickness and target density are separate manufacturing requirements.
Xinyao publishes an approximate thin MDF range of 0.8–6 mm, but buyers should not assume that every thickness is available at every published density. The required combination must be reviewed against current production feasibility and the intended application.
Published density options for specification review
Current Xinyao product data references five density options: 680, 780, 800, 850 and 1000 kg/m³. These values are published specification options for buyer discussion; they do not mean that every density is available in every thickness, size or order quantity.
When requesting one of these values, state whether it is a target density or another purchasing requirement and provide the application. The factory can then review the requested combination without assuming an unverified tolerance or performance level.

How density can affect processing review
Density can be relevant to product weight, handling, machining behaviour, board structure and downstream processing. It should not be evaluated in isolation, and this guide does not assign numerical performance values to any published density option.
Processing performance should be evaluated together with thickness, board structure, surface condition and the buyer's downstream process. If cutting, routing, bonding or surface processing is sensitive to the board specification, buyers should describe the equipment and acceptance requirements before production review.
Density for furniture components
Furniture buyers should identify the actual component—such as a cabinet back, drawer bottom, furniture backing or internal panel—and explain its dimensions, fixing method, machining and support conditions.
The factory can review the requested density together with thickness and surface condition. This does not replace the buyer's validation of the complete furniture component or imply that one density is suitable for every construction.
Density for lamination processing
A lamination review may involve board density, surface condition, thickness, adhesive system, pressure, temperature, film or decorative material and the buyer's equipment. No single density value confirms compatibility with a complete lamination process.
Buyers should provide the actual downstream conditions and carry out application-specific sample or process evaluation where compatibility is important. Xinyao does not publish a universal PET, PUR, PVC or other lamination guarantee.
High-density thin MDF
High-density thin MDF describes a thin fibreboard specification with a comparatively high density target. Xinyao's published product information includes density options up to 1000 kg/m³ and an existing factory technical report for high-density ultra-thin fibreboard buyer evaluation.
A higher published density number should not be treated as proof that a board is automatically better or stronger for every application. Confirm the thickness, density, dimensions, processing and required inspection information as one specification. The factory technical report is not presented as a third-party certification.

A useful density inquiry should give the factory enough information to review production feasibility, inspection and quotation. Include the following details in one written specification.
Nominal thickness and required density
Board dimensions
Finished application and component construction
Surface and downstream processing requirements
Lamination material, adhesive and process conditions where applicable

Packaging and handling requirements

Frequently asked questions
What density should I choose for thin MDF? There is no single density for every application. Provide the thickness, dimensions, component, processing and surface requirements so the requested density can be reviewed with the complete specification.
Does MDF density change with thickness? Thickness and density are separate variables. Do not assume a particular density from the nominal thickness.
Is higher-density MDF always better? No. A higher density number does not by itself confirm suitability or performance for a finished component.
